Coalition of Higher Education Assistance Organizations (COHEAO) Awards Four
Scholarships
WASHINGTON, DC (September 14, 2023) – The Coalition of Higher Education Assistance
Organizations (COHEAO) is pleased to announce the award of four $1,000 scholarships to
students of member institutions. Recipients of this year’s awards are:
Lillian Bertram, University of Hartford- – Pat Woods Memorial Scholarship
Madeline Granger, University of Hartford – COHEAO Scholarship
Rhiannon Lara, University of Hartford – COHEAO Scholarship
Julia Poleyestewa, University of Hartford – COHEAO Scholarship
Scholarship winners were selected based on academic achievement, community service and
future goals that include public service or benefit to the community.
“All of us at COHEAO are pleased to be able to provide scholarships to help these very worthy
students achieve their educational goals. It is an honor to be a part of an organization that
supports students while providing assistance to our member institutions,” said Lori Hartung,
COHEAO President.
She continued, “These young people all had impressive academic records, extensive community
service commitments and admirable career goals that will provide a benefit to the public.”
Lillian Bertram, University of Hartford, Pat Woods Memorial Scholarship said, “ I am truly
grateful for the opportunity to be awarded the 2023 COHEAO scholarship. It is a blessing that
organizations like COHEAO exist to offer students like me financial support throughout our
academic journeys. A special thank you to the scholarship committee for investing in my vision
to support my community and break barriers for at-risk youth. This scholarship stands for a
chance to make a profound impact, and I couldn’t be more appreciative!”
COHEAO’s primary fundraiser for the scholarship fund is a silent auction at its annual
conference. Donations can also be made by sending a check to COHEAO Scholarship Fund to
777 Sixth Street NW, Suite 510, Washington, D.C. 20001-4498.

Since 1981, COHEAO has served as a partnership of colleges, universities and organizations
dedicated to promoting student-friendly, efficiently operated campus-based loan and tuition
payment programs. COHEAO leadership and staff regularly meet with higher education
policymakers and provide member support through various task forces and programs, including
an extensive financial literacy initiative. COHEAO offers professional development
opportunities and subject matter experts to members to assist institutions and their students with
successful outcomes.
